Fed: Military justice inquiry continues
An inquiry into military justice will hear claims today that a teenage air force cadet
killed herself after being pressured to resign.
SUSAN CAMPBELL will testify about her daughter ELEANORE TIBBLE to the senate inquiry
into the effectiveness of the military justice system.
Ms CAMPBELL says in her written submission that her daughter was 15 when she killed
herself in 2000 after being accused of fraternising with a 29-year-old instructor who
was a senior officer at the Tasmanian Air Training Corps in Hobart.
Ms CAMPBELL says at the time, ELEANORE believed she would be discharged from the cadets
because of the alleged relationship.
But an instruction had been issued by RAAF headquarters in Canberra two weeks earlier
directing that she not be discharged.
The inquiry, which is set to report on August the 5th, has three more days of public
hearings in Brisbane, Melbourne and Adelaide.
