A more frugal utopia.

Oscar Wilde once remarked that any map of the world that does not include utopia isn't worth a glance. His wisdom has gone unheeded by the cartographers of contemporary social democracy and postmodernism who have gerrymandered utopia off the map. All the more reason that I am unrepentant about continuing to harbour normative ideas about what might constitute a sane and just society: a far greater measure of social equality, a renewal of the structures and values of human community, protection for the vulnerable and the vanishing. On the other hand, the passage of time has tempered my confidence in the inherent disposition of humankind to goodness, in the effect of speaking truth …
